Charlotte Sports Center (www.charlottesportscenter.com) is a state-of-the-art indoor sports facility that opened in April 1999. The facility is the largest private multipurpose athletic facility in North Carolina and one of the largest in the country. The 80,000 square foot facility is located in north Charlotte less than one mile off Interstate 77, Exit 18, at the intersection of Harris Boulevard and Lakeview Road.
The primary focus of Charlotte Sports Center is indoor soccer, inline hockey, basketball, volleyball, flag football and a full service fitness center. A variety of activities involving these sports are available including leagues, camps, clinics, lessons, tournaments and parties. Leagues for all sports run year around in a number of different categories including youth, adult, coed, corporate and more. With the exception of the fitness center, there are no membership fees at Charlotte Sports Center. Teams or individuals pay a league fee for each season or open play is available for $5 per day.
The philosophy driving Charlotte Sports Center is to provide everyday athletes state-of-the-art playing surfaces at affordable prices. Charlotte Sports Center has received national recognition for its choices in playing surfaces and its unique multipurpose environment. The sports center was the first facility in the world to have a new type of hardwood basketball court that several teams in the NBA now use. The soccer and flag football surface is equally unique and looks and feels just like real grass. The facility was one of the first in the United States to have this surface. Visitors evaluating or using Charlotte Sports Center’s surfaces include: Dan Reeves (the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons), NCAA Athletic Directors and coaches, numerous professional athletes from the NBA, NFL & MLB and sports facility owners from across the country.
Facilities at Charlotte Sports Center include two full-size basketball courts, a large soccer and flag football field, a full-size inline hockey rink, five volleyball courts, a 15,000 square foot fitness center, a pro shop, locker rooms with showers, hockey team rooms, party rooms, a nursery and conference rooms. Charlotte Sports Center is owned and managed by a private investment group. In addition to regular scheduled activities, Charlotte Sports Center hosts local, regional and national sports tournaments and events that create a significant economic impact for Mecklenburg County.
